The dating app with no chat!
Downloading The Intro was like a Red Bull for my swiped-out thumbs. The dating app “for busy professionals” has no messaging option and instead forces you to schedule a date, meaning you skip all that repetitive small talk.
After matching with someone, the app asks for your availability and then suggests venues that are mutually convenient for you and your match. Alternatively, you can choose to do a video date. Eliminating the back-and-forth scheduling and venue debate leaves daters with nothing to do but… date. It saves time, effort and awkwardness. Members simply like, match, date.
Coming up to my two-month anniversary with The Intro (which roughly translates to 10 years in the dating-verse) I’ve met more people than I ever did on my 3-year swiping streak on other apps. It seems photos and a bio really are enough to attract interesting people.
Each day, the app gives you just 10 ‘Intros’, a further effort to save members’ time. Knowing I only had to review 10 profiles a day made me more thoughtful. I found myself taking the time to read people's answers to their profile questions, giving out 'Likes' in a more informed manner.
The Intro also offers a speed dating feature with video calls that last only two minutes. Rather than wasting 3 weeks messaging someone before deciding whether to meet up, this option lets you reach that conclusion in the same time it takes to make a cup of tea. Two minutes isn’t long, but I found it was enough to see whether there was any chemistry (and make sure they looked like their profile pics!). When it goes well, you can match with the person afterwards to schedule a longer date.
Since I signed up to The Intro when the world was a bit less face-to-face and a bit more screen-to-screen, I found the speed dating events were a fun excuse to get dressed up for an event for which I wasn’t even leaving the house.
So, if like me, you’re bored of all that repetitive small talk on dating apps and you just want to date, give The Intro a try. If you check it out, leave a comment below and let me know what you thought.
